Digital transformation

of robot-supported

factories of the future

The main goal of the DIGITOP program is the introduction of advanced digital technologies, such as robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), information and communication technologies (ICT), Industry 4.0 and 5.0, into manufacturing companies for the automation and optimization of production processes.

The program includes nine research and development projects (R&D), which are at various stages of technological readiness, and focuses on the theme of digital transition and strategic autonomy.

The goal of the program is to maintain industrial production in Slovenia and the EU, with research organizations and industrial partners participating, who partially support the research with their own resources.

The DIGITOP program includes five key research and development areas, all focused on advanced digital technologies for the optimization of smart factories.

The first area, which supports all others, explores promising technologies in artificial intelligence (AI) and the development of advanced tools for the automation of production processes, while also examining the adoption of new technologies by workers.

The second area focuses on the development of reconfigurable robotic cells, which allow agile manufacturing with easy transition between different production processes.

The third examines collaborative robotics, enabling workers and robots to perform tasks together, thereby improving manufacturing efficiency and safety.

The fourth deals with the use of digitalization and AI for predicting energy consumption and capturing and formalizing operators’ skills, with the goal of optimizing smart factories and digitizing workers’ knowledge.

The fifth area explores the introduction of digital twins into smart factories, enabling “off-line” testing of new technologies, thus accelerating and reducing the cost of introducing these technologies into industrial production.
